HELP / A PLACE TO START

A little help
with Apprentice.

Get set up, connect your apps,
and find your way around.

01

Get started

Your first few minutes with Apprentice.

  1. Install Apprentice. Download the latest release and follow the installation instructions. The download page lists current system requirements.
  2. Sign in. Use your Apprentice account, then connect a supported AI provider. Your Apprentice account and model account serve different purposes.
  3. Set up permissions. Apprentice explains the macOS access it needs for voice, screen assistance and work in other apps.
  4. Bring a first task. Start with something small and specific, such as explaining the window in front of you or finding information in a document.

Example first requests:

  • “Explain what I’m looking at.”
  • “Help me find the setting for this.”
  • “Summarise this document and list the open questions.”
  • “Help me prepare for my next meeting.”

Connect the apps you use

Open Apps in Apprentice to see available connections. Choose an app and follow its sign-in steps.

The permissions you grant determine what Apprentice can read or change. Connecting an app does not automatically enable every feature.

For supported apps, background reading has a separate control. You can turn it off while keeping the connection available for tasks you request.

To disconnect: Open the connection in Apps and choose Disconnect. You can also review or revoke access through the connected service.

03

Choose a model

Apprentice provides the tools, interface and saved context around the AI model you use.

Connect a supported provider under Accounts, then choose from the models available in Preferences. Availability depends on your provider account and the Apprentice release.

Model usage may consume your provider’s allowance or incur separate charges. Check your provider’s billing settings and Apprentice’s Pricing page.

04

Talk, type, or ask about your screen

You can speak to Apprentice or type a request. Check Shortcuts for your current voice shortcut and customise it to suit your setup.

For screen assistance, keep the relevant window visible and describe what you want to understand or change.

A specific request helps:

“Show me where to change the export format.”

You can control automatic screen context and spoken replies in Preferences. macOS permissions are managed separately in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

05

Use Apprentice in a meeting

Start transcription using Transcribe a call. Check the listening indicator and confirm that the intended audio is being captured.

During the conversation, use the available assistance controls for a recap, questions or help with what to say next.

Stop transcription when the meeting ends. Open Calls to review the saved transcript, summary and follow-ups.

Make sure you have the necessary permission from participants before recording or transcribing. Live transcription uses an external transcription service.

06

Review what Apprentice remembers

Open What I know to explore saved context about people, projects and your work.

You can inspect saved information, correct something inaccurate, and remove memories or working conventions you no longer want used.

A useful correction is specific:

“That deadline changed to Thursday.”

Removing a saved memory does not automatically delete the email, conversation or call it came from. If a connected source remains available, related information may be encountered again.

07

Set up recurring work

Describe the job, when it should run, and where you want the result.

“Every Monday morning, check these three competitor pages and save a summary of what changed.”

Review the routine under Routines. You can inspect previous runs, change its instructions, pause it or run it manually.

Work that depends on your Mac needs the Mac to be awake, Apprentice running, and the required accounts available.
